Pianist Bram De Looze already proved his great talent at the age of 16 during our monthly jam sessions in De Werf. His major breakthrough came when his group LABtrio won the Avignon international jazz competition in 2012. That same year he also crossed the ocean to New York where he is still studying today.
We mainly know Dutch bassist Jos Machtel for his work as the permanent bassist of the internationally laurelled Brussels Jazz Orchestra, but he also trod international paths on the side of absolute legends such as Woody Shaw or Lee Konitz. Matthias De Waele’s calling as a jazz musician came relatively late.
He originally graduated as a criminologist at the University of Ghent, after which he enrolled at the Lemmens Institute. However, he soon developed into a practised drummer in the style of his big example Philly Joe Jones.
