Alain Vankenhove

Rêve d'Eléphant Orchestra


Trumpettist Alain Vankenhove was born in Nevers (France), where he also took his first musical lessons. He went on to Paris, where he graduated in 1997 with a First Prize in Jazz and Improvised Music at the Conservatoire de Musique et de Danse de Paris.

He was invited to join the 1998 European tour of Lester Bowies Brass Fantasy. From 2000 through to 2002 he played with the famous Orchestre National de Jazz. During that same period he was often heard playing with musicians such as Henri Texier, Anouar Brahem, Gianluigi Trovesi, Andy Emler, ... In 2006 he also founded his own Alain Vankenhove Quartet.

In Belgium he is mainly known for his work with the quirky Rêve d'Eléphant Orchestra collective.
