Biography

Christophe Devisscher was born in Nieuwpoort in 1971. Having spent his youth experimenting with both classical music and heavy metal, he decided to learn how to play the double bass with Bart Denolf at the Brussels Conservatoire (where he graduated in 1989). He then took master classes with Hein Van de Geyn, Enrico Pieranunzi and Charlie Haden, among others.

He started his professional music career as sideman to pop/folk artists like Stef Bos, Wigbert, KiMiZ, ... but gradually became more and more interested in jazz. The first steps in that direction were set with the Alexi Tuamarila Quartet, with whom he recorded various albums. The collaboration was stopped in 2003, but Devisscher did cling to jazz and joined the quartet of famous Luxemburg vibraphonist Pascal Schumacher, with whom he has literally travelled the world.

In 2004 the quartet was awarded both Public Award and First Prize of the Jury a the Tremplin Jazz Festival in Avignon.

Today he can be heard in many projects, such as the Kristen Cornwell Quartet and the Cezariusz Gadzina Quartet.

As a sideman he has been seen playing with Lee Konitz, Peter King, Rabih Abou-Khalil, Eric Vloeimans, Dusko Gojkovic, Philip Catherine, ...
