Etienne Plumer was born in South Korea but grew up in Belgium. He takes his first trumpet lessons at the Bastogne Academy and plays in various brass bands.
He soon decides to teach himself how to play the drums and resolutely opts for the instrument after a few internships with Steve Houben, Pierre Vaiana and Sal La Rocca. He studies at the Liège Conservatoire from 1998 to 2001, where he is taught by Garrett List and Michel Massot. Shuman Shankar and Pierre Narcisse spur him on to also take up tablas.
Today he plays with groups such as Animus Anima and the Rêve d'Eléphant Orchestra.
