Alto saxophonist Frank Vaganée did jazz at the Antwerp Conservatoire and Jazzstudio (under
John Ruocco and others). In the mid-Eighties he started his professional career as a musician and was soon active with various jazz ensembles, around his own figure or that of others.
In 1993 he pooled forces with a number of musicians and set up the Brussels Jazz Orchestra (BJO), of which he is not only the lead artist but also the artistic director. Together with the BJO Frank has set up projects that brought the orchestra international fame, playing concerts in Europe and the USA and working with the biggest international names in jazz. Frank Vaganée is also in huge demand as a guest soloist with various (international) ensembles. As such he has played in Europe, Japan and Russia. Alongside his work as a musician and composer/arranger, Frank also teaches at the Leuven Lemmens Institute.
