Biography
In `88 Roelofs enrolled at the Maastricht Conservatoire, where he took classes with Arnoud Gerritse, who inevitably passed his passion for jazz on to Geert. The result is a musical diversity that has put him in a position to feel at home in various bands and styles. For a few years now, he has been drummer with the Corneille/Roelofs trio (jazz), Septet Corneille (Francophone Pop), Digna Janssen 4 (jazz), the band Silq (Pop-Rock) and Willem Hellbreker 4 (jazz). Geert is also involved in an educational project with Robbin Zalm (Volumia!), under the name Drumpower.
Apart from the above fixed formations, he is also often called upon as a freelance. Geert Roelofs has played with the likes of Jimmy Haslip (Yellow Jackets), Mark Murphy, Lee Konitz, Han Bennink, Bobby Milletello (Dave Brubeck), Eric Vloeimans, Michiel Borstlap, Hans & Candy Dulfer, Bram Vermeulen, Toon Roos, Hein van De Geyn, Ruud Breuls, Lydia van Dam, Benjamin Herman, Ben van den Dungen, Yuri Honing, Michel Bisceglia, Jesse van Ruller, Anton Goudsmit, Ed Verhoef, Christoph Erbstoesser, Jeroen van Vliet, Harmen Fraanje, Leo Janssen, Barend Middelhof, Rinus Groenenveld, Gulli Gudmuntsson, Wiro Mahieu, Martin Gjakonovski and many others.
