French drummer Joël Allouche was born in Algeria. As a child he imbibed the local oriental rhythms,
which still shows in his work today.
As a teenager he moved to Montpellier, where – aged 15 – he started his own professional musical career.
He has since played all over the world alongside jazz greats like Kenny Wheeler, Pierre Favre, Bobo Stenson, Paul Bley, Paolo Fresu, Lester Bowie, John Surman, Lee Konitz, Enrico Rava,...
