Biography

British saxophonist Joe Higham started his studies at the Brighton College of Art & Design in Newcastle. Seven years later he left for Brussels, where he enrolled at the Royal Conservatoire, taking lessons with Steve Houben, Jean-Louis Rassinfosse and Bruno Castelluci, and graduated with a First Prize for saxophone.

He soon became an active player on the Brussels jazz scene, where he has performed with the likes of Hein Van De Geyn, Eric Legnini, Philippe Aerts, ... Upon graduation, he played in various bands such as Hamp Digs Ham, Combo Belge, The Morton Fork Gang, The Jazz Project and Odex Protocole. Today he is active in groups such as The Wrong Object, Eric Fusillier 4tet, PHP and the Chris Mentens Jazz Van.

Over the years he perfected his Arab music skills, under the wings of Hamid Al Basri, one of the oldest and most respected Arab music teachers in Europe. The result of this training clearly permeates the sound of his own Al-Orkestra.
