Saxophonist Koen Nys moved to Montréal in 1987 where he obtained his diploma in Jazz Performance at the McGill University. After his studies he played in several ensembles there, including at the renowned Festival International de Jazz de Montréal.
Not much later he exchanged Canada for Tokyo, where he was also active in several groups. His debut album as a leader ‘Chimbe’ was recorded in New York, after having been active there in the local scene for a year. Since then he has taken on a variety of musical challenges and made Belgium his permanent home again.
