Lieven Venken studied at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven. First classical violin and percussion after which he switched to the jazz department where he was taught by, among others, Dré Pallemaerts. He graduated in 1999.
After his studies he soon became an extremely active drummer in the Belgian jazz scene. Being a freelance musician he has played with many artists in Europe and America. He played in the group Ewin Vann's World with, among others, Norma Winstone, Eric Vloeimans, Michel Herr and Stefan Lievestro. He also played in a trio with American saxophonist Jonathan Moritz and Lindsey Horner on bass. He was also part of Jef Neve's Groove Thing.
He recorded on our label as a member of hard bop collective High Voltage.
