Mark Turner is an American saxophonist and clarinettist. He was born in Ohio and grew up in Southern California. He started off taking clarinet lessons, but soon also learned how to play alto and tenor sax. He graduated from the Berklee College of Music and moved to New York in 1990, where he was taught the tricks of the jazz trade, and soon became one of the standard bearers of the innovative New Yorks jazz scene.
In the course of his career he has played with the likes of Kurt Rosenwinkel, Dave Holland, Enrico Rava, Jeff Ballard, Billy Hart, Joshua Redman, Lee Konitz, ... alongside which he is also a member of his own trio FLY.
