Mark Whitecage is an American reed instrument player. He started playing music at the age of six in his father’s band. He learned the tricks of the jazz trade extremely fast.
In the early 1980s he joined Gunter Hampel's Galaxy Dream Band. In the mid-1980s he set up two of his own bands: Liquid Time and The Glass House Ensemble. In the 1990s Liquid Time was chosen by Cadence Magazine as one of the best records of the year. In 1994 he was active in the Improvisers Collective. This was followed by many releases on the American CIMP label.
In the same period he cooperated with Anthony Braxton, William Parker, Joe McPhee, Steve Swell and Joe Fonda. He released music on our label with the latter.
