Bassist Michel Hatzigeorgiou was born in Belgium as the son of Greek parents. He started playing traditional Greek bouzouki at the age of nine which he later swapped for an electric guitar to finally choose bass guitar.

In the early 1980s he took jazz seminars at the Conservatory of Liège where he met some important figures of Belgian jazz history such as Toots Thielemans, Philip Catherine and Pierre Van Dormael. He also managed to tour with legend Jaco Pastorius, who would continue to have a major influence on him, at a very early age. When he moved to Brussels he came into contact with saxophonist Fabrizio Cassol and drummer Stéphane Galland.

Together with guitarist Pierre Van Dormael they formed the Nasa Na Band, precursor of the popular Aka Moon. His smart bass parts combined with the rich tonality of Fabrizio Cassol and the virtuous rhythmic of Stéphane Galland make Aka Moon one of the best Belgian export products in jazz land.
