Biography

Peer Baierlein started a classical accordion course in 1979 before eventually choosing the trumpet in 1981. After having played in the local brass band for several years, he took the plunge for a career as a musician at the age of 16.

In 1997 he obtained the degree of orchestra musician and self-employed music teacher at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne. This was followed by a year’s lesson with Arno Lange at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin. He then moved to Leuven where he studied Jazz and Light Music with Bert Joris at the Lemmens Institute. In 2002 Peer obtained the Master of Music ‘Specialisation lead trumpet for Big Band’ diploma in 2003. During his studies he lived, played and studied in New York for a year. Between 2004 and 2006 he studied ‘Classical composition’ with Piet Swerts, also at the Lemmens Institute.

From 2006 to 2008 he was a film music student at the conservatory in Mons and studied with, among others, Denis Pousseur, Victor Kissine and Jean-Luc Fafchamps. Baierlein played with, among others, the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, Kurt Van Herck, Ron Van Rossum and Dré Pallemaerts.

He also played at major music festivals: Jazz Middelheim (2001: Maria Schneider Big Band Workshop), Gaume Jazz festival (2004: Jazzisfaction), Park Jazz Kortrijk (2006: Jazzisfaction) and Ghent’s Jazz in ’t park (2005: Jazzisfaction, 2006: Electric Miles Project).
