Phillippe Aerts was given his first double bass as a gift at the age of 14 from his father, a talented amateur bassist. When he also discovered his father’s record collection he became inspired by jazz.
Especially Ray Brown convinced him to throw himself on this music. Philippe immediately began to listen to these records and applied what he heard. A year later (at the age of 15) he gave his first Dixieland and mainstream concerts. His playing is valued by leading figures for his precision and his high-minded accompaniments, based on his great knowledge of jazz and his roots on the one hand and his unmistakable inventiveness on the other. Continuously on the lookout for the perfect sound, Philippe AERTS creates a highly personal sound.
He is currently one of the most in demand bassists of Western Europe. In December 1997 he moved to New York where he played with the Toshiko AKIYOSHI / Lew TABACKIN Jazz Orchestra. In March 2000 he moved to Switzerland before returning to Belgium for good.
