In 1999 he went on a hunt for authentic rhythms and songs from Burkina Faso, Togo, Mali and Cameroon for his renowned 'Foofango' project. In turn, for 'Al Funduq' he drew parallels between cultures on the border of East and West: folk music from Sicily, Tunisia, Algeria and so on. With 'Itenarari Siciliani' he returned to his roots, the traditional songs of Sicily together with pianist Salvatore Bonafede, bassist Manolo Cabras and young drummer Lander Gyselinck.
