Biography
He gained his first musical experience with his brother Kenny Washington, where he played congas and other percussion instruments. They performed in several New York clubs as The Washington Brothers. He studied cello and joined various orchestras (Youth Symphony, All-Eastern USA Youth Orchestra, All-State Orchestra and New York Philharmonic Orchestra).
Not much later he started studying classical double bass with William Blossom and jazz with Paul West. He soon switched to electric bass guitar under the influence of his good friend Marcus Miller. Throughout his extensive career he has cooperated with among others, Jimy Cobb, Cassandra Wilson, Branford Marsalis, Ravi Coltrane, Don Byron, World Saxophone Quartet, D'Angelo, Lester Bowie, Roy Hargrove and with our fellow countryman Chris Joris, with whom he released work on our label.
