Yves Peeters Group
All You See
The majority of the compositions were written by Yves Peeters. He proves the fact that he has not lost his love for Africa since his performance at the Bamako Jazz Festival in 2009, with the beautiful song ‘Bamako’, a warm and sincere homage to all local musicians he met there. Saxophonist Nicolas Kummert also expresses his love for African culture in ‘Matongé’, homage to the colourful borough in Brussels. In ’Look it’s alive’ by bassist Nicolas Thys we also hear snippets of South African jazz. The fact that, apart from offering melodious songs, the group isn’t afraid of a dash of improvisation as we can hear in “Try and stop us” written by guitarist Frederik Leroux. The whole is doused in a whiff of soul, like in the sugary soul ballad ‘Nightscape’ or the treacherous ‘Hats & Bags’, which begins as a ballad, but bursts into serious guitar noise towards the middle.
