Peer Baierlein’s quartet, formerly known as Jazzisfaction, has finally made an old dream come true in the shape of this, the group’s first live CD. After two hugely successful albums [“Issues” (Phlavour, 2004) and “Open Questions” (W.E.R.F.053, 2006)] they spent four days recording live for our label, both at the Brussels Jazzstation and in Antwerp’s Rataplan.
The whole CD was recorded live, without even a hint of editing or overdubs. The result is a highly convivial record, revolving around a completely new repertoire of unpretentious compositions by Peer Baierlein, Yves Peeters and Ewout Pierreux. Most pieces are firmly rooted in the rich jazz tradition, yet they alternate with surprisingly contemporary passages. The red thread through it all being the intimate, warm and sometimes fragile sound of frontman Peer Baierlein.
