Hugely talented piano virtuoso Fabian Fiorini’s background ranges from classical over jazz to ethnic music. Drummer Giovanni Barcella thrives on contemporary music forms that go against the grain, and co-founded the Gent free music collective Ciclic.
Bass player Jean-Jaques Avenel is one of the mainstays of free jazz in France and has, since the seventies, played with the likes of Mal Waldron, Richard Galliano and Paul Bley, next to which he is a permanent fixture in the Steve Lacy sextet.
Jeroen himself describes his new quartet as ‘Four musicians using their musical experience and culture to find and build their own sound around free, lyrical themes. They improvise with motifs, permutations, intervals, the twelve-tone system, serialism, polyrhythms, timbre and other parameters from improvised musical vernacular.’
