Description

Around 2005 Ben Sluijs changed his original quartet to join forces with tenor saxophone player Jeroen Van Herzeele (with whom he played before in the ensemble ‘Octurn’), bass player Manolo Cabras and drummer Marek Patrman. This new quartet combined with the unrestrained piano playing of the often self-willed Erik Vermeulen make up the ensemble called ‘The Unplayables’.

With this ‘The Unplayables’, Sluijs went on tour in 2007 and created the repertoire for ‘Harmonic Integration’, which was recorded in CC De Meent in Alsemberg and released on our own W.E.R.F.-label.

In this album Sluijs knows how to combine perfectly his melancholic, often introverted style with the drivng tenorsax of Jeroen Van Herzeele and the uninhibited piano playing of Erik Vermeulen. Using compositions full of challenges, teasing and call and response, driven by a subtile rhythm section, Sluijs succeeds in delivering another jewel!
