The box contains three exquisite CDs. Album number one unites Kris Defoort with his current trio for the first time in a recording studio. The result amply proves that - after carving a niche for himself as a composer of operas and contemporary classical music – Defoort remains a master jazz performer. Not surprisingly either, in this cream-of-the-crop setup spanning three generations of musicians: old hand Kris Defoort himself on piano, experienced musician Nic Thys on electric bass and tomboy Lander Gyselinck on drums.
On his solo album Live in Tokyo Defoort again demonstrates his outstanding improvisation talent and his amazing versatility as a pianist/composer of lyrical, intimistic as well as in-your-face, no-nonsense music.
The cherry on the cake is the fully revisited and remastered Sound Plaza (W.E.R.F.037), one of the albums in the highly acclaimed 2002 The Finest in Belgian Jazz series. This newly released version boasts various previously unrecorded tracks and alternative takes, so we opted for the aptly chosen name of New Sound Plaza.
