For his latest ‘Chris Joris Experience’, Chris has pooled forces with a remarkable wind section consisting of alto saxophonist Frank Vaganée and trumpeter Nico Schepers. The rhythm section revolves around pianist Frank Desmyter, with whom Chris Joris has performed many times in the past, and the young Walloon double bass player Axel Gillain.
Two remarkable guests also make a remarkable appearance. Highly promising singer Kimberly Dhondt treats us to a highly notable, striking version of the Argentine traditional ‘Alfonsina Y El Mar’, and the album closes with two bonus tracks in which the American reed player Eric Person dialogues with Chris Joris’ subtle percussion playing.
Contrary to his previous records, the ethnic influences now leave ample room for pure jazz sounds. That unmistakable, unique Chris Joris touch, however, remains.
