An increasing number of highly inventive Belgian jazz musicians, including the six-year-old Ben Sluijs Quartet, can now easily hold their own alongside colleagues from abroad. This is their third CD after 'Food for Free ' and 'Candy Century '. Sluijs is a fantastic saxophonist, whose phrases bulge with finds and striking rhythm and timbre variations.
His notes dance. They come straight from the heart, are elegant yet subdued and supported by an equally refined rhythm section consisting of pianist Erik Vermeulen, bassist Piet Verbist and drummer Eric Thielemans.
