Description

Saxophonist Bruno Vansina is probably best known in his native country for his work in the slightly eccentric big band Flat Earth Society (FES). He is also active in groups such as the Vansina-Verbruggen-Gudmundsson Trio, Tokio Quantizea and Ewout Pierreux 5 and he is a frequent guest of the Brussels Jazz Orchestra and Lady Linn & Her Magnificent Seven.

Apart from this he leads his own Bruno Vansina Quartet in which he is flanked by three omnipresent faces on the Belgian jazz scene: Bert Cools on guitar, Jos Machtel on contrabass and musical jack-of-all-trades Teun Verbruggen on drums. For their most recent record “Stratocluster” they went to New York in 2012 and called in the help of American Steve Nelson, the permanent vibraphonist of Dave Holland.

The result of this musical meeting is sometimes swinging, sometimes treading on people’s toes, but always extremely solid and –what’s more- fascinating!
