Saxophonist Koen Nys moved to Montréal in 1987, where he got his degree in Jazz Performance at McGill University. After his studies he played in several ensembles there, including at the renowned Festival International de Jazz de Montréal.
Not much later he swapped Canada for Tokyo, where he was also active in several groups. His debut record as a leader, ‘Chimbe’, was recorded in New York, after having been active there in the local jazz scene for a year. Since then he had many musical experiences and returned to live in Belgium.
With his new Koen Nys Quintet he combines forces with several young fellows from the national jazz scene.
