Despite his relative youth, 33-year-old saxophonist Frank Vaganée is already considered a veteran of the Belgian jazz scene by 1999. He is the bandleader/composer of his own trio and director of the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, one of the busiest big bands around.
The album ‘Two Trios’ features the fabulous Dré Pallemaerts on drums and bassist Rosario Bonaccorso, with tenor saxophonist John Ruocco occasionally augmenting the line-up. Supported by Pallemaerts’ flawless drumming and the solid bass of Bonaccorso, the two saxophones weave an intricate pattern of angular counterpoint and post-bop phraseology. Guaranteed enjoyment for fans of Bird onwards.
