Description

The Mahieu-Vantomme Quartet was formed some fifteen years ago at the Gent Conservatoire, where saxophonist Tom Mahieu and pianist Dominique Vantomme pioneered the Light Music and Jazz Department. They soon put together their own quartet, playing a wide variety of own compositions that spanned traditional swing as well as binary pieces, complete with the odd free jazz touch etc. The very strength of their uncompromising music lies in the mood and ambiance it creates.

The other quartet’s members are drummer Geert Roelofs, who also performs on their CD “Whatever” (W.E.R.F. 041) and bass player Werner Lauscher, well known for his work with Michel Bisceglia and Alano Gruarin. Their latest album “Walk into the Skyline”, once again revolves around strong, balanced (mainly) own compositions and subtly intersperses groovy tracks with subdued, sultry ballads - pure pleasure for your ears!
