‘Watts Up’ is the group’s first full CD on the W.E.R.F. label – after an enthusiastically received demo. The result is an eclectic mix of incisive grooves with mellow moods and perfectly illustrates the band’s motley background. The album thrives on original compositions by guitarist and frontman François Delporte, whose energetic guitar work jumps in at the deep end of experimentation. Saxophonist Tom Callens, double bass player Ben Ramos and drummer Lionel Beuvens also love the odd experiment and have taken part in a string of different projects, from the light Lady Linn & her Magnificent Seven to the funky Alien Bitesize. This dynamism and energy give aRTET its easily recognizable sound and identity. The cherry on the cake is the presence of master pianist Kris Defoort on two tracks of the quartet’s CD.
